GREAT BARRIER REEF & FRASER ISLAND

This seven-day itinerary begins and ends in Brisbane, where you can easily extend your trip to explore the Queensland's capital city.

DAY 1: ARRIVAL TO BRISBANE - GLASSHOUSE MOUTAINS (1HR)

Upon arrival, pick up your car at the airport and drive about 1 hour north to the Glasshouse Mountains. (We recommend staying one night in Brisbane should you be arriving in the evening). After checking into your accommodation, spend the day relaxing and exploring this beautiful region. Head to the famous Australia Zoo, where the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin called home. Explore the quaint mountain villages of Maleny and Montville, with tea rooms and craft shops housed in log and stone cottages. Drop in to Maleny Diaries and discover real milk made the old-fashioned way. You may like to book online for their tour that takes approximately 1½ hrs.  Cheese lovers may like to stop by Maleny Cheese and taste some of our award winning boutique cheese products.

DAY 2: GLASSHOUSE MOUTAINS - BUNDABERG (DISTANCE: 305KM. 3HRS 40MIN)

Drive north towards Bundaberg, the 'Gateway to the Southern Great Barrier Reef'. On the way, visit the Ginger Factory in Yandina, and then hop across the road to Nutworks & Chocolate Factory to satisfy your macadamia nuts & chocolate cravings. If you happen to be travelling through on a Wednesday or Saturday, don’t miss the Eumundi Market (close around 1.30pm). In the historic town of Eumundi, more than 500 stalls showcase fresh produce, delicious food, handmade crafts, and other wonderful treasures. Continue driving North to Bundaberg. Situated on the Burnett River, Bundaberg and the surrounding areas are a nature-lover's dream, with beautiful sandy beaches perfect for diving, and eight National Parks right along the coast. Take a tour of the Bundaberg Rum distillery, which has been producing rum since 1888 and learn about the process of distilling rum. Tours are every hour on the hour, from 10:00 to 3:00 most days. About 15 km east of the city is Mon Repos Beach, known as 'Turtle Coast' and home to a large population of nesting marine turtles. The nesting season is from Mid November to late March, and an encounter with the turtles will be included if you are travelling during this period (Turtle Encounter is from 7pm onwards till late)

 

 

DAY 3: BUNDABERG - LADY ELLIOT ISLAND (SOUTHERN GREAT BARRIER REEF)

Make your way to the airport this morning for your 30mins scenic flight to Lady Elliot Island, a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef. Situated within a highly protected ’Green Zone’ the island is a sanctuary for over 1,200 species of marine life and is known for its abundance of manta rays, turtles, amazing array of spectacular marine life and unspoilt coral reef. Arriving at Lady Elliot, you will be met by an Activity Staff member for an "Island Orientation". Collect your snorkel, flippers & mask from Dive Shop. Afternoon is at leisure. Free activities include Reef Walking tour (tide dependent), Island Discovery and History Walks, and Glass Bottom Boat Tour. Enjoy a buffet dinner in the Dining Room before evening activities, which may include presentations in the Education Centre, games and Turtle Viewing (seasonal).

DAY 4: LADY ELLIOT ISLAND - NOOSA (B)

Take an early morning snorkel or walk around the island before a full buffet breakfast on the deck overlooking the coral lagoon. Check out and be ready to board your scenic flight back to Bundaberg. Drive approximately 260km (3hrs 20mins) south towards Noosaville today. Enroute, you might enjoy stopping at Snakes Downunder Reptile Zoo & Park (close at 3pm) in Childers. This small family run zoo has really friendly animals, where you can pet a Koala, kiss the python, hold a baby croc, and feed some kangaroos. Don’t forget to make a stop at the award winning Mammino’s Gourmet Ice Cream for some of its 100 per cent home/hand made gourmet ice-creams which are made to a secret family recipe handed down through the generations.  Check into your resort style hotel in Noosa Heads. Explore the trendy Hastings Street, with its designer boutiques, cool cafes, bustling bars and alfresco restaurants.

DAY 5: NOOSA - WORLD HERITAGE FRASER ISLAND

This morning, meet your experienced guide from Australian Sunset Safaris for an overnight eco-adventure tour to Fraser Island in a 4x4 vehicle. Fraser Island, the "World's Largest Sand Island" is a unique paradise of golden beaches, rolling surf, crystal clear lakes, and ancient Rainforests. This will be the highlight of your Australian experience. On our 2-Day tour of discovery, we will swim in crystal clear waters Lake Birrabeen, one of the most beautiful of the forty perched dune lakes found on the island. A drive on 75 mile Beach will simply take your breath away as we soak in the freedom and magnificence of driving on the de facto highway of this island 2.5 times the size of Singapore. Discover the incredible beauty of Fraser Island’s rainforests and marvel at how ancient trees can grow out from pure sand. Fraser Island also boasts to having the purest breed of Dingo (dog) in the world, Whales (seasonal) and Dolphins are often seen swimming along the coastal line of Fraser Island, with the best sightings seen from the amazing Indian Head. Other major attractions on this trip include Yidney Rocks, Maheno Shipwreck and the Coloured Sands. Soak into the refreshing waters at Eli Creek, dig up some Pipis (clam) and bring them back to your hotel for an Aussie cookout. Your stay at Eurong Beach Resort is right on the beach. On a clear night, step out your resort onto the beach to check out the Milky Way. (Extension to 2 nights on the Island will take you further up north and include more attractions)

DAY 6: WORLD HERITAGE FRASER ISLAND - NOOSA - CALOUNDRA

After breakfast, check out of your hotel and continue with touring of Fraser Island. Return to hotel for a quick lunch (not included) before being driven back to Noosa. Retrieve your car, and drive to Caloundra for your overnight stay.

DAY 7: CALOUNDRA - BRISBANE - SINGAPORE

Spend today exploring Caloundra  - the City with 6 completely different beaches to boast of. Do check out Caloundra Markets if its a Sunday (7am to 12pm). Make your way back to Brisbane and drop off your car.
